Pediatrician – Mobile Team for CASI project in Salamieh (CASI/16)

Job Summary:

The Pediatrician will provide medical assessment and clinical support to children identified through the Mobile Nutrition Team's nutrition screening activities. The position will assess children at risk of malnutrition or with identified health concerns, provide appropriate medical advice and counselling, facilitate referrals to health facilities when required, and support the team in ensuring the quality and safety of child health and nutrition services.

Main Responsibilities:

• Conduct clinical assessments of children identified through nutrition screening activities who require further medical evaluation.
• Assess children with suspected or identified malnutrition and provide appropriate clinical recommendations in accordance with national and project protocols.
• Identify children requiring specialized medical care or further assessment and facilitate timely referral to appropriate health facilities.
• Follow up on referred cases, where required, and coordinate with relevant health facilities to support continuity of care.
• Provide medical advice, health education, and appropriate counselling to mothers, caregivers, and families on child health, nutrition, hygiene, and recommended care practices.
• Support the Mobile Nutrition Team in identifying children who require urgent medical attention and ensure appropriate referral and follow-up.
• Collaborate closely with Nutrition Nurses, the Team Leader, Field Reporting Assistant, and other relevant project staff to ensure coordinated and quality service delivery.
• Provide technical guidance to the Mobile Nutrition Team on child health and nutrition-related issues within the scope of the position.
• Support the team in ensuring that nutrition screening and referral activities are implemented in accordance with approved Ministry of Health and project protocols.
• Review relevant clinical and referral documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and confidentiality.
• Ensure appropriate documentation of clinical assessments, medical consultations, referrals, and follow-up activities.
• Participate in community-based outreach activities and field visits as part of the Mobile Nutrition Team across targeted project locations.
• Support the implementation of health and nutrition education and Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) activities targeting mothers, caregivers, and households.
• Participate in data collection, surveys, assessments, and research activities conducted under the project, as required.
• Perform any other duties related to the position as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Medicine (MD) from a recognized university.
• Valid registration and license to practice medicine in Syria.
• Specialization in Pediatrics or a recognized postgraduate qualification in Pediatrics is required.
• Minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience in pediatrics.
• Prior experience working with humanitarian organizations is preferred.
• Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year of previous experience working with mobile teams.
• Previous experience working in humanitarian, community-based, or mobile health and nutrition programs is highly desirable.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, caregivers, communities, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Good computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications and formal email correspondence.
• Not a government employee and must hold a valid, permanent professional license.
• Must not be a resident physician (medical resident).
• Must be able to travel between governorates and commit to working during official working hours.
• Must be fully available and able to start work immediately / within a short notice period.
• Preference will be given to candidates living in the local area.
