Child Health-Care Officer

JOB SUMMARY The Child Health Officer is responsible for managing interventions and activities to promote the Integrated Child Health and Development Approach across AKHS facilities and Ministry of Health (MoH) primary health care centers. This includes delivering integrated services, empowering caregivers, and contributing to child health strategies and quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the MoH and partners.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop annual and monthly work plans for child health, identify required interventions, and manage implementation.
2. Review work plans periodically and make adjustments based on data (upon approval by the Head of Programmes).
3. Coordinate with relevant stakeholders within the AKHS Programmes Team to maintain project schedules.
4. Follow up with supervisors at the Child Health Clinic in the Aga Khan Medical Centre and mobile medical teams to implement the Comprehensive and Integrated Management of Childhood approach.
5. Engage community stakeholders to raise awareness on healthy parenting, developmental assessments, nutrition, and vaccinations.
6. Coordinate with the Health Systems Strengthening Manager for supervision of the CCD programme in MoH centres.
7. Collect and analyze data on child health indicators (immunization rates, growth, nutrition, and development).
8. Collaborate with internal teams (health systems, community health, M&E) and public health departments to identify health priorities.
9. Monitor the development of national child health policies and protocols with AKHS teams.
10. Ensure resource availability in coordination with Procurement and Operations departments.
11. Verify that activities align with established schedules and allocated budgets.
12. Submit required periodic reports within the AKHS framework.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

• University degree in a health-related field.
• Preferred: Advanced academic qualifications or specialized studies in child health.

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 3 years of experience in child healthcare.
• Advantage: Experience in primary healthcare within public health facilities.
• Experience in community-based health programs and health promotion.
• Added Advantage: Experience working with NGOs or international organizations.
• Proven skills in project planning, implementation, coordination, M&E, data analysis, technical report writing, capacity building, and training facilitation.
• Strong communication, team-building, time management, and stress management skills.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Additional Requirements

• Must not be a government employee.
• Ability to commit to working with AKHS-S during official working hours.
