Civil Site Engineer - Hospital/01
JOB SUMMARY:
The Civil Site Engineer represent Aga Khan Health Services in day-to-day civil, structural and architectural oversight so the works comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, schedule and project objectives.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical review and site supervision:
- Review civil, structural and architectural drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements and technical queries for compliance with the contract and coordinated design.
- Monitor setting-out, survey control, excavation, earthworks, foundations, reinforced concrete, masonry, waterproofing, roofing, finishes and external works.
- Confirm that openings, sleeves, embedded items, equipment bases and builder's work are coordinated with electrical and mechanical requirements before construction.
- Track actual progress against the approved programme and promptly identify constraints, sequencing conflicts or activities that may affect milestones.
Quality, safety and records:
- Witness and document inspections and tests in accordance with approved inspection and test plans, including material approvals and concrete, compaction and waterproofing records.
- Review work inspection requests, material inspection requests, test results and as-built information within the assigned discipline.
- Raise site observations and non-conformance reports for defective or unauthorized work, monitor corrective actions and verify closure.
- Monitor visible safety risks and contractor compliance with approved HSE procedures, then escalate unsafe conditions without assuming the contractor's safety obligations.
Coordination, reporting and handover:
- Coordinate civil interfaces with the contractor, consultant, designers, MEP engineers and hospital user representatives, and document agreed actions.
- Provide verified progress and quantity information to the Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor for payment review and forecasting.
- Maintain daily site records, photographs, inspection logs, drawing registers, issue trackers and concise weekly and monthly reports.
- Support snagging, rectification, statutory inspections, as-built review, O&M documentation and phased or final handover.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
Experience:
- At least five years of site engineering or construction supervision experience on building projects.
- Experience with reinforced-concrete structures, architectural finishes, waterproofing and external works. Healthcare or institutional project experience is preferred.
- Sound knowledge of QA/QC processes, inspection and test plans, material approvals, construction sequencing and applicable codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Revit/BIM coordination and scheduling-tool experience are advantages.
Technical Skills:
- Strong site observation and practical construction judgment.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and interfaces.
- Firm, respectful communication with contractors and consultants.
- Organized inspection records and timely issue escalation.
- Team coordination and focus on safe, maintainable construction.
- Professional working proficiency in Arabic and English, including technical reporting and correspondence.
Personal Characteristics:
- High integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
Another requirement:
- Not an employee of a government agency.
- The ability to travel between governorates.
- The ability to commit to working with AKHS-S during official working hours.
