Background/IRC Summary:

The Syria crisis is considered the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the Cold War, with 16.5 million people in need of assistance due to economic decline and ongoing violence. Of these, 7 million are internally displaced, and 5.4 million are refugees in neighboring countries. The fall of the Syrian regime in December 2024 has left the situation complex and volatile, posing significant challenges to humanitarian efforts.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is responding robustly to the crisis with a $90 million annual regional portfolio and over 3,000 staff. IRC's programs in Syria and neighboring countries focus on health, cash assistance, education, child protection, women’s protection and empowerment, and livelihood programming. The work addresses critical issues such as access, security, funding, and coordination in these challenging settings.

Job Overview/Summary:

The Women’s Center Facilitators will be responsible for the implementation of the women engagement activities inside and outside the centers, both in urban areas and in the surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate or lead educational, psychosocial and recreational activities for women and girls in the women’s centers
• Supervise women’s center volunteers and related activities as requested by supervisor
• Ensure that women’s center activities are conducted in agreement with the women’s center rules, guidelines and are culturally appropriate.
• Facilitate confidential referral of survivors of gender-based violence to health, psychosocial, legal, and psychosocial support, as appropriate
• Assist the GBV Site Supervisor with the day-to-day operations of the women’s centers
• Provide women’s center attendees with information regarding IRC services and, as appropriate, conduct individual and home-based visits with women to raise awareness of services
• Track and report on participant attendance for activities and supply utilization at the women’s center
• Ensure that the women’s center is kept in a clean and orderly manner

Required Experience/qualification/Skills:

• Skills in one or more of the following activities: sewing, knitting, embroidery, craft-making, Arabic literacy, foreign languages, literature, sports, arts, music, theater
• Previous experience (voluntary or professional) in teaching at least one of the skills listed above
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Knowledge and understanding of GBV Minimum Standards
• Prior experience in working in community centers or women’s centers
• Prior experience in working with local or international NGOs.
• Prior volunteering experience
• Prior experience in teaching in a professional environment
• Ability to facilitate group sessions with women
• Knowledge in or sensitivity about gender-based violence – candidates with certifications of GBV-related trainings will be given priority
• Technical diploma or bachelor’s degree in social work, social sciences, psychology, counseling, or any other related field (Optional and Preffered).

Language/Travel:

• Arabic is required, while English are desired.
• Travel: Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and travel as required to different field sites as well as attending regional and global workshops and meetings.
