Job purpose:

Under the supervision of the PSS officer, the Child Protection & Case Management Assistant supports the implementation of case management and psychosocial support (PSS) activities in World Vision-supported schools in Aleppo Governorate, under the ECHO-funded multisectoral action 'Multisectoral Support for the Most Vulnerable Populations in Syria. The role focuses on identifying children at risk, conducting assessments, developing individual case plans, and providing focused psychosocial support and emotional support to children experiencing distress. The Assistant ensures accurate documentation and case-file management, facilitates safe referrals to specialised services, and contributes to the overall protection response. In addition, the Assistant supports and monitors partner-led child protection interventions in schools, ensuring alignment with project objectives, donor requirements and safeguarding standards.

Major Responsibilities

  • Activity:
  • Participate in and support the identification of children at risk, through observation, referrals and community-based mechanisms.
  • Deliver focused psychosocial support and individual sessions with children in line with assessed needs and case plans.
  • Ensure proper documentation and maintain confidential case files in line with Child Protection Case Management Minimum Standards.
  • Handle high- and medium-risk cases in coordination with the Protection Coordinator, following the 7-step case management process.
  • Facilitate safe, documented referrals to specialised services (health, MHPSS, legal, GBV) and collaborate with all the partners as relevant.
  • Support and monitor the partner-led child protection interventions in schools, conducting joint visits, providing technical guidance, and verifying quality and compliance with safeguarding standards.
  • Participate in weekly case management team meetings and case supervision sessions.
  • Contribute to weekly updates and monthly, quarterly and final activity reports.
  • Collaborate with PSS and education teams, as well as other sectors, to ensure integrated and coordinated support to children.
  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection policies, including PSEA and the Code of Conduct, are applied across all activities.
  • Engage with schools, families and community stakeholders (including child protection committees) to strengthen protection outcomes.
  • Perform other child-protection-related tasks as assigned by the Protection Coordinator.

Knowledge/Qualifications for the Role

Required Professional Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in humanitarian or development NGOs, preferably in child protection and case management.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:

  • A university degree or diploma from an institute in education, sociology, psychology, or any other related field.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • A university degree or diploma from an institute in education, sociology, psychology, or any other related field.
  • Additional experience with refugees, emergency response and NGO experience preferred.
  • Computer skills, in particular email, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Fluency in Arabic required, and ability to write and speak English.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Detailed oriented and able to verify data quality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good contextual knowledge of the local community and social/cultural constraints, realities and organizational relationships. Inspires trust within/outside of the organization.
  • Develops high levels of credibility and accountability.
  • Stays open to internal and external feedback.
  • Agrees with the mission, vision and core values of World Vision.

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent written and fluent in speaking Arabic.
  • Ability to write very good quality reports in English is required.

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement:

  • The position requires 100% of the time to be field-based.

  • Position requires willingness and ability to continue functioning during a crisis, including during a World Vision response to a man-made or natural disaster, and availability to work outside regular hours when required.
