Job purpose:

The ELP Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning activities under the Empowered Learning Program (ELP) approved by the Ministry of Education, to out-of-school children and adolescents. The teacher will facilitate learner-centered educational sessions, support students' academic and psychosocial development, and contribute to improving learning outcomes through inclusive, participatory, and child-friendly teaching approaches.

In collaboration with Teacher Specialist and overall supervision of the Education Coordinator, the ELP Teacher will ensure that educational activities are implemented effectively in accordance with project guidelines, Ministry of Education standards, and UNICEF requirements.

Major Responsibilities

a. Deliver ELP sessions according to approved curricula, lesson plans, and project schedules.

b. Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that encourages active participation.

c. Apply learner-centered and competency-based teaching methodologies.

d. Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of children and adolescents.

e. Support students in achieving expected learning outcomes and competencies.

f. Prepare daily and weekly lesson plans aligned with program objectives.

g. Manage classrooms effectively to ensure positive behavior and active learner engagement.

h. Utilize appropriate teaching and learning materials to support instruction.

i. Promote respect, inclusion, and positive discipline practices.

j. Conduct baseline, formative, and end-of-cycle assessments as required.

k. Monitor student attendance, participation, and academic progress.

l. Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and learner performance.

m. Share progress updates and concerns with supervisors in a timely manner.

n. Promote children's well-being and psychosocial development during learning activities.

o. Ensure adherence to child safeguarding, protection, and PSEA policies.

p. Coordinate with Teacher Specialists, and project staff to improve educational quality.

q. Participate in teacher meetings, trainings, workshops, and professional development activities.

r. Engage positively with parents and caregivers to support student attendance and learning.

s. Support awareness and mobilization efforts to promote access to education.

Safeguarding

1. Report adult and child safeguarding incidents for designated area programmes (Levels 1-3)
2. Support proper implementation of the office’s Safeguarding Incident Preparedness Plans at local area programme level.

Any additional tasks required by the line manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

• Knowledge of child-centered, learner-centered, and competency-based teaching approaches.
• Understanding of the Empowered Learning Program (ELP), Non-Formal Education (NFE), and alternative education pathways.
• Knowledge of curriculum implementation, lesson planning, and classroom management techniques.
• Understanding of child development, adolescent learning needs, and psychosocial well-being.
• Familiarity with inclusive education principles and strategies for supporting learners with diverse needs, including children with disabilities.
• Knowledge of student assessment methods, including baseline, formative, and summative assessments.

Skills

• Strong teaching and classroom facilitation skills.
• Ability to develop and implement effective lesson plans aligned with curriculum objectives.
• Classroom management skills that promote positive behavior and learner engagement.
• Student assessment and progress-monitoring skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, caregivers, and colleagues.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet different learning needs and abilities.

Abilities

• Ability to create a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environment.
• Ability to motivate and inspire children and adolescents to actively participate in learning.
• Ability to identify and respond appropriately to academic, behavioral, and psychosocial needs of learners.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of learners from different backgrounds and abilities.
