Screening Staff (WFP Project)

Job purpose:

Location: Idleb

Number of Positions: 6

Contract Duration: 2 months, with no extension

Salary: As per the WFP salary scale

The Screening Staff is responsible for implementing nutrition screening activities under the WFP project, including conducting anthropometric measurements such as Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) to identify children and beneficiaries at risk of acute malnutrition. The position ensures accurate screening, proper data collection, documentation, and timely referral of identified cases according to approved nutrition protocols and guidelines. The Screening Staff will support effective community-level nutrition interventions, maintain confidentiality of beneficiary information, and contribute to the quality, accountability, and timely delivery of nutrition services in coordination with the project team.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Nutrition Screening and MUAC Measurement
  • Conduct nutrition screening activities among targeted beneficiaries according to WFP nutrition program guidelines and approved procedures.
  • Measure Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) for children and/or targeted individuals using standard anthropometric measurement techniques.
  • Identify cases of acute malnutrition based on screening results and defined criteria.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and availability of screening tools and equipment.
  • Provide basic information to caregivers/beneficiaries regarding nutrition screening results and next steps.
  1. Data Collection and Documentation
  • Collect and record nutrition screening data using approved paper-based or digital tools (e.g., Kobo/ODK where applicable).
  • Verify completeness and accuracy of collected information before submission.
  • Maintain confidentiality of beneficiary information and comply with data protection procedures.
  • Submit daily/periodic screening reports to the supervisor.

2. Referral and Community Awareness Support

  • Refer identified malnutrition cases to relevant nutrition services or health facilities according to established referral pathways.
  • Support nutrition awareness activities and provide basic messages related to child nutrition, breastfeeding, hygiene, and healthy practices when required.
  • Respond to beneficiary questions and concerns related to screening activities.

3. Reporting, Documentation, and Accountability

  • Coordinate with project teams, community mobilizers, and other field staff to ensure smooth implementation of screening activities.
  • Participate in field monitoring visits and quality checks.
  • Report challenges, gaps, and operational issues to the supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with WFP, WVI, and nutrition program standards.

Knowledge / Qualifications for the Role

Required Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in nutrition screening, community health, or humanitarian projects.
  • Previous experience with WFP nutrition activities or NGO programs is an advantage.
  • Experience in MUAC measurement and anthropometric assessment is preferred.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:

  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Nursing, Midwifery, Health Sciences, Public Health, or related fields preferred.
  • Relevant field experience may compensate for educational requirements.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Good understanding of nutrition screening principles.
  • Ability to accurately perform MUAC measurements.
  • Good communication skills with children, caregivers, and communities.
  • Good data collection and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work in the field and under humanitarian conditions

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

  • 80% field work
  • 20% office based

  • Based in NWS
