Protection Technical Specialist

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Protection Technical Specialist will be responsible for:
Providing technical leadership and strategic guidance across all protection interventions, including Child Protection, GBV risk mitigation, psychosocial support, legal protection, and community-based protection. 
Leading the technical design, review, and adaptation of protection activities to ensure they remain relevant to the context and project objectives. 
Ensuring that all protection interventions comply with internationally recognized standards, including the Child Protection Minimum Standards (CPMS), GBV Minimum Standards, IASC Guidelines, and other relevant humanitarian protection frameworks. 
Providing ongoing technical mentoring, coaching, and supervision to case management staff, psychosocial workers, protection officers, and other field personnel. 
Designing and facilitating technical trainings, mentoring plans, and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen staff competencies. 
Conducting regular technical field monitoring visits to assess service quality, identify gaps, and recommend corrective actions. 
Leading or contributing to protection needs assessments, protection analyses, and response planning using evidence-based approaches. 
Reviewing and approving protection methodologies, case management procedures, psychosocial support approaches, referral mechanisms, and protection tools to ensure alignment with international best practices and ethical standards. 
Supporting integration of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) requirements into protection programming, including strengthening documentation, data quality, and use of findings for adaptive programming. 
Promoting adherence to Protection Principles, Safeguarding Policies, Code of Conduct, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and confidentiality standards. 
Coordinating closely with project management and relevant stakeholders to address technical challenges and improve programme quality. 
Supporting proposal development, technical reporting, documentation of lessons learned, and dissemination of best practices.
- Reporting:
The Protection Technical Specialist will report directly to the Protection Program Manager (or designated Project Manager) and will work collaboratively with programme, MEAL, and field teams. Technical deliverables and quality assurance outputs will be reviewed by programme management.
- Deliverables:
The Protection Technical Specialist will deliver, at a minimum:
Technical implementation plans for protection programming. 
Technical guidance notes, SOPs, and protection tools as required. 
Capacity-building plans and completed technical training sessions for project staff. 
Technical field monitoring reports with recommendations for quality improvement. 
Protection analysis and technical inputs to assessments and response planning. 
Reviewed and validated case management, psychosocial support, and protection methodologies. 
Regular technical reports documenting progress, challenges, and recommendations. 
Contributions to donor reports, project proposals, lessons learned, and best practice documentation. 
Action plans to address identified technical gaps and strengthen programme quality. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or another relevant field. 
Specialized training in Protection, Case Management, Psychosocial Support, Child Protection, or Gender-Based Violence is highly desirable. 
- Professional Experience:
Minimum of 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in protection programming. 
Demonstrated experience in technical supervision, mentoring, and capacity building. 
Experience in child protection, GBV, psychosocial support, legal protection, or community-based protection programming. 
Previous experience with humanitarian NGOs, INGOs, or UN agencies is preferred. 
Experience working within integrated or multi-sectoral humanitarian programmes is an advantage. 
Strong English language skills, both written and spoken, are mandatory.
- Technical Competencies:
Strong knowledge of international protection frameworks, including CPMS, GBV Minimum Standards, IASC Guidelines, and humanitarian protection principles. 
Experience conducting protection analyses, programme design, and technical quality assurance. 
Excellent facilitation, coaching, and training skills. 
Strong analytical, coordination, communication, and report-writing abilities. 
Ability to undertake regular field travel across project locations. 
Good understanding of MEAL systems and evidence-based programming.
